Virgin Atlantic Free Personal Items
Your handbag, pocketbook or purse, as you would normally use it (in other words, not just being used to contain items that would otherwise be regarded as baggage).
- Your overcoat or wrap.
- Your umbrella or walking stick
- A small camera and/or binoculars.
- A reasonable amount of reading matter for the flight.
- An infant’s food (for consumption on the flight).
- A small number of duty-free goods.
- Headphones for onboard use
If you bring large electrical items with you (such as laptops), please remember that you’ll need to remove them from your bag for security screening.
Mobility aids such as walking aids and manual collapsible wheelchairs can also be taken on-board some of our flights.
Virgin Atlantic Check in Baggage Sizes and Weight
- Economy Light bookings are hand baggage only and don’t include any checked baggage.
- Economy Classic and Delight tickets include 1 checked in bag. This can be up to 90 x 75 x 43cm (35.5 x 29.5 x 16ins) in size and up to 23kg (50lb) in weight.
- Premium cabin, you can take up to 2 pieces of baggage. Bags can each be up to 90 x 75 x 43cm (35.5 x 29.5 x 16ins) in size and up to 23kg (50lb) in weight.
- Upper Class can take up to 3 pieces of baggage, each weighing up to 32kg (70lb) and with dimensions of up to 90 x 75 x 43cm (35.5 x 29.5 x 16ins).

Virgin Atlantic Extra bags
You can check in extra baggage beyond the limits outlined here, but you’ll need to arrange this before you fly and pay an extra baggage fee. Check with Virgin.

In the interests of passenger safety, we can’t allow the following items in hand luggage:
- Torch-style cigarette lighters.
- Non-safety matches.
- Toy or replica guns (plastic or metal).
- Sharp items
- Hypodermic syringes – unless you have a medical condition
- Scissors
- Sporting bats.
- Tradesmen’s tools
- Any dangerous articles such as flammables, corrosives, poisons, radioactive materials, ammunition, firearms or explosives.
